WHO ARE YOU?
The cash4yourpix website has been set up by journalists Mark Houldey and Jonathan Hartley.
Mark and Jonathan have years of experience in the media and an enviable reputation for integrity and providing the public with a fair deal.
They already run the popular cash4yourstory.com website which has paid out hundreds of thousands of pounds for newspaper and magazine stories since it was set up in 2001.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY PICTURE IS WORTH ANYTHING?
Call our hotline number (01603 765346) and we will instantly tell you if your photograph can be sold. Also, see the What Sells? Section of this website for more detail.
You can also fill in the form on this page (right) and we will contact you if we are interested in your photograph.
IF I SEND YOU MY PICTURE, HOW DO I KNOW YOU WON’T PUBLISH IT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION?
The legal copyright of any photograph is owned by the person who took, or owns, the picture.
Newspapers and magazines are not legally allowed to publish the photograph without your permission. We will ask you for your permission to publish it.
On some occasions, for your convenience, we may ask you to assign the copyright to us for a set period, during which you will receive a pre-agreed percentage of any sales. Because of our good reputation in the industry assigning the copyright makes it less likely that the picture will be published anywhere without your/our permission. After the set period is up, the copyright would return to you.
HOW DO I GET PAID?
Payment is by cheque or money transfer usually within 28 days of publication of your picture in a newspaper, magazine or on television.
HOW MUCH WILL I GET PAID?
Some photographs are obviously worth more than others. If you have a great picture of an A-list celebrity doing something extraordinary, it can be worth thousands. Different types of photographs attract differing fees.
You will be advised how much the photograph is likely to be worth and will receive a contract via email or post as your guarantee of payment.
WHY SHOULD I NOT CONTACT A MAGAZINE OR NEWSPAPER DIRECT?
Because you will make more money by selling it through us. We will work out a strategy to maximize earnings from the photograph. This may well be the first time you have ever thought of contacting the media and obviously you will not be aware of how much you can sell your photograph for.
We sell big stories and photographs on a daily basis to national television stations, newspapers and magazines and know how much your picture is worth. We are able to give you an instant decision on whether we can sell your photo and will indicate how much it is worth. You will get the highest possible fee from us because we test the market for you across a range of publications to assess who is prepared to pay the most for your picture.
If you approach a publication direct, you will end up with the fee they want to pay you, not necessarily the highest fee available. We take over all the hard work for you, contacting the publication best suited for your particular photograph and then- the important bit- negotiating the fee for you.
CAN I REMAIN ANONYMOUS IF I WISH TO SELL MY PHOTOGRAPH?
Yes. As journalists we consider protecting our sources a key priority.
